Step-By-Step Instructions For Writing Term Papers Without A Hitch

All right, you have the text, the background, the data and the results. What remains now is the gargantuan task of arranging and laying them out in a manner that seems remotely comprehensible. Only then will the structure of your term paper come together.

Sadly, this is where most students give in to panic attacks and spend hours thinking of an easy way out. Many turn in substandard work with misplaced margins and incorrect formats whereas some give up any hope of completing at all. To stop you from becoming either, here are step-by-step instructions for writing term papers without a hitch.

Choose a field, and derive a topic:

Remember, unless you are passionate about the topic, the paper itself will lack passion. Therefore, choose a field of subjects and narrow those down to a concrete topic. Some of the questions you can answer while doing so are:

  • What are the issues related to this topic?
  • How does it affect people/my area of study?
  • Is the effect long term or short term?
  • What are my opinions on the same?

State the purpose of the study:

Do not have a slew of objectives for your study. They will be of no use if they are unattainable. Keep your goals short term, and your objectives realistic. State the problem statement of your study, which will become either the thesis or the question.

Look up Literature:

Refer to books and sources listing studies that have been conducted in the same field or subject as yours. Sometimes, these may help inspire you to come up with better solutions for problems.

Draft an Outline:

The outline will serve as the skeleton for your study, with your data becoming flesh. Formulating an outline will help give your study a direction and prevent you from deviating in between.

Gather data:

You may gather sufficient and relevant data by conducting surveys, interviews, group discussions, and case studies and so on. Once you have accumulated enough matter, study, analyze and categorize it into segments according to the convenience of your study.

Write up a rough draft:

The rough draft is written casually, without much regard for grammar and formatting. Categorize the bulk of data you have into comprehensible sections, and decide the amount of information you want to keep, and the information you want to omit.

Editing Stage:

Now, start laying out your paper in the proper format. Provide spaces and margins, check for spelling errors and grammatical mistakes, and proofread for wrong information.

Completing the paper:

The final copy of your paper must have a complete acknowledgments and bibliography section, in which you should have specified all sources you referred to during the course of your study. Additionally, an annexure should also contain copies of any data or studies critical to your study.
